BGP RIB failure

A RIB "failure" as the name suggests, does not necessarily indicate a bad or undesirable configuration. It simply means that that particular BGP entry did not enter the routing table.

There are several reasons why you see a RIB failure:

  • Missing next-hop reachability
  • Route suppression due to policies
  • Memory constraints
  • Invalid next-hop address
  • Route filtering
  • Learned through another source: BGP RIB failure Administrative Distance
