ASBR Behavior with External Type 2 OSPF Routes
An Autonomous System Boundary Router (ASBR) in OSPF does not convert an External Type 2 (E2) route into an OSPF Inter-Area (O IA) route when it advertises an external route. The ASBR's role is to import external routing information from other protocols or static routes into OSPF and then distribute them throughout the OSPF network. External routes are tagged as E2 by default, indicating they maintain their original cost regardless of the number of OSPF routers they traverse. This ensures routers within the OSPF network recognize the route as external, preserving the original cost and clearly marking it as originating outside the OSPF network.
