EIGRP - redistribute connected and static routes
When implementing EIGRP, you can use the redistribute connected command to redistribute directly connected networks in EIGRP. However, this command will also redistribute any static route that uses an interface as a destination.
For example, if you have this static route in the routing table of an EIGRP router...
R1# show ip route Codes: C - connected, S - static, R - RIP, M - mobile, B - BGP D - EIGRP, EX - EIGRP external, O - OSPF, IA - OSPF inter area E1 - OSPF external type 1, E2 - OSPF external type 2 i - IS-IS, L1 - IS-IS level-1, L2 - IS-IS level-2, ia - IS-IS inter area * - candidate default, U - per-user static route, o - ODR P - periodic downloaded static route Gateway of last resort is not set 192.168.2.0/24 is subnetted, 1 subnets S 192.168.2.0 is directly connected, GigabitEthernet0/1
...the redistribute connected
command in EIGRP will also inject the 192.168.2.0/24 network into EIGRP simply because this route has interface GigabitEthernet0/1 as a destination. This static entry essentially makes the router assume that this subnet is indeed directly connected to this interface.
