
In the context of [EtherChannel](/etherchannel), an "operational member" is a physical interface that is a member of the configured port channel that is in a state of forwarding traffic.  

Depending on various factors, the [maximum number of operational members](/etherchannel-maximum-number-of-physical-links) can vary, or it can be configured using [the max-bundle command](/etherchannel-max-bundle).

When an EtherChannel [LAG](/lag) group loses all of its operational members, it the logical port channel is no longer in an enabled or up state.
