EtherChannel - PAgP timer, hello interval, and age value

EtherChannel uses several protocols for the negotiation of a link aggregation group. One of these is Port Aggregation Protocol(PAgP).

PAgP uses various timers and intervals to operate. These are desscribed below:

  • PAgP timer - This is a configurable value that is used to determine after how log PAgP informational packets are considered valid. The pagp timer interface configuration command can be used on the physical interfaces of the EtherChannel to change this value.
  • Hello interval - This is the interval between hello PAgP hello messages. This value is 30 seconds and is non configurable.
  • Age value - This value appears in the output of the show pagp neighbor command and indicates how many seconds have passed since the last PAgP message was received from a particular neighbor.
