STP - Multiple types of STP on the same switch

In Cisco switches, it is possible to run different Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) instances for different VLANs using Per-VLAN Spanning Tree Plus (PVST+). PVST+ allows for a separate spanning tree for each VLAN, optimizing the traffic path on a per-VLAN basis.

However, it is not possible to run different types of STP (such as RPVST+, MST, or traditional STP) concurrently on different VLANs within the same switch. The chosen STP mode applies to the entire switch.

Documentation may sometimes refer to running separate instances of the same STP mode for each VLAN (PVST+) or different STP modes on different switches that are compatible with each other, but never different STP modes for each VLAN on the same switch.
