Multicast Manual RP Configuration in Small PIM Networks
In small networks, it is feasible to manually designate a Rendezvous Point (RP) on each switch when using sparse mode. This approach can eliminate the need for AutoRP or Bootstrap Router (BSR) protocols, which automatically select and advertise the RP. By manually configuring the RP, network configuration becomes simpler and more straightforward.
It is vital however to ensure that the IP address used as the RP is reachable from all devices within the network. Achieving this involves configuring the routing protocol or static routing in a way that ensures all devices can route to the designated address.
