MPLS Customer Edge Router
A Customer Edge (CE) device is a device used found within an MPLS environment. Refer to the following MPLS topology.
The CE is found on the customer premises and although part of the MPLS infrastructure, it does not run MPLS itself. This device can be a router or a switch, depending upon how the MPLS network is configured. The CE will connect directly to the PE router. There are many ways that CE and PE devices can be configured to interoperate, including setting up routing between them using various routing protocols, or even static routing.
